February 2024

Gravel Point Project. The project applicant, Bandon Beach Ventures, LLC, hosted an open house at the Bandon Community Center/Barn on Thursday, January 18th. The meeting was well attended and provided an opportunity for the public to learn more about the proposed Gravel Point project. The development team provided a brief overview of the project highlighting revisions, such as reducing the building height to 28-feet thereby eliminating the need for a variance. Additionally, they responded to questions and concerns raised by the audience regarding perceived impacts to traffic, infrastructure, and the City's potable water supply.

The applicant spoke about the project's benefits including new employment opportunities for residents, increased tourism supporting local businesses, funding for infrastructure improvements derived from bed tax revenue for the provision of essential City services and programs.

A special City Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21st, at 6:00 pm to consider a de novo appeal of the Gravel Point Project. Residents are encouraged to attend the appeal hearing and/or submit written comments by February 20th, at 5:00 pm to the Planning Department at: planning@cityofbandon.org.

Good Earth Community Garden. The Good Earth Community Garden, nestled in the heart of Bandon, is a hidden gem. The Good Earth Community Garden is located at the end of 8th Court SW. The Garden is beloved by gardeners of all ages who enjoy cultivating organic vegetables and flowers.

Over the years, gardeners have produced bountiful harvests for their families and friends and have made generous donations to the Everyone at Table (EAT) program. Residents have proven that it is entirely feasible to grow delicious and nutritious crops in Bandon's challenging windy coastal climate.

As another growing season approaches, the Community Garden is excited to announce that applications for renting garden beds are now available. Applications can be downloaded from the Good Earth Community Garden website at: www.socoastcommunitygardens.org. Aspiring gardeners can also pick up an application at the Good Earth Community Garden's main gate. Please note, garden beds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to apply as soon as possible.
